The Panavia Tornado is a family of twin-engine, variable-sweep-wing multi-role-combat aircraft, jointly developed and manufactured by Italy, the United Kingdom and Germany. There are three primary Tornado variants: the Tornado IDS (interdictor/strike) fighter-bomber, the Tornado ECR (electronic combat/reconnaissance) SEAD aircraft and the Tornado ADV (air defence variant) interceptor aircraft. The Tornado GR.1 is one of the RAFs first variants to see service in the IDS role. The tornado GR.1 famously saw success during the 1991 Gulf war where the aircraft flew low level strike missions against hostile airfields and other high priority targets. This Legendary aircraft was then upgraded to the later GR.4 standard with the RAF in 1996 and eventually was retired by the RAF in 2019. Although they are still flown by Germany, Italy and Saudi Arabia to this day.
