The T26/M26 Pershing is an American medium/heavy tank witch entered service in 1944 - 1945 seeing limited service in the closing months of WW2, as well as extensive in the Korean war. Pershing tanks that served in the last months of World War II were characterised by high efficiency. Mostly they ended up in General Patton's army, where they did a great job. The production of the tanks began in 1944 and continued until the following year. About 2,200 units were produced. The tank was equipped with armour up to 102mm thick and an effective 90mm M3 cannon. The end of World War II did not mean the end of the service of the Pershing. They went into battle again during the Korean War of 1950-1953. They were soon phased out and replaced by a derivative of the vehicle, known as the M46 Patton. However, it did see several export customers, such as Italy, France and South Korea. Britain also received 12 several through the lend-lease programme. During its limited service it did see some extremely famous moments in the closing stage of the war such as the Cologne tank duel, which is a tank-on-tank fight between the T26E3 (callsign: Eagle 7) and a German panther, that took place right at the base of the famous Cologne Cathedral and was uniquely caught entirely on film by an American combat cameraman.
The set has been carefully designed in a 1:28 scale using 904 COBI construction blocks.
