The T-34 was a Soviet medium tank produced between 1941 and 1958. During World War II it was the primary vehicle of Soviet armoured forces. Due to its great simplicity it was very easy to manufacture, use and repair. The design was very ahead of its time and was arguably one of the best of WW2. However, due to the dire situation faced by the Soviet Union in the opening years and months of the German invasion production quality took a drastic hit in favour of quantity over quality and even then the T-34 still proved itself to be a vital asset. Many historians believe that the T-34-85 was instrumental in the Allied victory. The T-34/85 is a late war upgrade of the original design giving it a larger turret capable of housing the powerful 85mm ZiS-S-53 Cannon, first seen in early 1944. Today this is the most common variant as most older 76mm variants were destroyed or were upgraded with the new gun. The vehicle was used by dozens of countries for many years after the end of the war.

Smaller tracks were used, the hull was narrowed and the frontal wall of the armour was smoothed. The turret, cannon design and fenders have also been modified.
