The Bismarck was the first of two battleships of the Bismarck class, built for the Kriegsmarine. Named after German Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, the ship was launched on February 14, 1939, and completed in August 1940. With an impressive displacement of approximately 41,700 tons and an armament of eight 38 cm main guns in four twin turrets, Bismarck was a symbol of German naval power.

In May 1941, Bismarck embarked on her famous operation in the Atlantic, aiming to disrupt Allied sea lanes. During her service, the ship participated in the Battle of the Denmark Strait, where she sank the British battlecruiser Hood. Shortly thereafter, Bismarck became the target of an intensive search by the Royal Navy. Ultimately, on May 27, 1941, she was sunk by the British fleet, ending her short but legendary career.
